Shepherd's Pie

Shepherd's Pie is also known as "Cottage Pie" (as in a cottage for a the poor). The names are used pretty interchangeably, regardless of it the meat inside is beef or lamb. Some people say Shepherd's Pie is only used in regards to lamb, because shepherds keep watch over sheep rather than cattle.

Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients:
 1 lb. ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 can (10 3/4 oz.) Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 tbsp. ketchup
1/8 tsp. ground black pepper
1 can (14 1/2 oz.) each of green beans, sliced carrots, and corn
1 cup milk
2 tbsp. butter
1 1/3 cups instant mashed potato flakes

Directions:
1.) Brown beef in skillet and drain. Add cut up onion and cook until onions are slightly or completely clear.
2.) In another pot, follow directions to make 1 1/3 cup of flakes into mashed potatoes.
3.) In another pot on simmering/low heat, stir soup, ketchup, black pepper, and veggies.
4.) In a 9" pie plate, add beef and onions. Next, pour veggie mixture. Top with mashed potatoes, and spread them around to cover the other layers.
5.) Bake at 400°F. for 15 min. or until potatoes are lightly browned, adding shredded cheddar cheese in the last 5 minutes, if desired.

Get these in a pot with some cream of mushroom sou, ketchup, and pepper.
This isn't done to really cook anything. It is just to get it heated up and able to mix better.
Brown some ground beef and drain and then toss some roughly chopped onions in there and let them cook a bit.
Mashed potatoes...
Put the meat and onion in the bottom of your pie plate.
Carefully spread the veggie mixture on top of that.
Spread the mashed potatoes over that. Bake at 400°F for 10 min., topping with cheddar cheese and then baking for another 5 min.
